How to get there ?

First things first. There are a couple different ways to get to Cape Tribulation and depending which type of adventurer you are there is one that will suit you best.

Self Drive – One of the best ways to experience Cape Tribulation is by renting a car and driving up with the family.

Not only does the drive up here take you on one of the most breath-taking roads in Australia, with the Great Barrier Reef on one side and the Daintree Rainforest on the other, there are also many stops on the way which are more than worth a visit.

A great spot for the whole family is the Wildlife Habitat in Port Douglas. It is the perfect way to immerse your family into the Daintree allowing you to see some of the rare wildlife up close and personal. A lot of fun for the kids!

Tour Bus – If you don’t feel like doing all the driving yourself there is always the option of four different tour operators which all offer a fantastic experience. Making a number of stops on the way you will get an extremely informative and interesting perspective of the Daintree Rainforest.

Checking out swimming holes on the way as well as guided tours through the boardwalks. This is a perfect way for the whole family to have fun and relax while learning about this magical place.

Cape Tribulation activities

Where to begin Cape Tribulation is full of activities which are perfect for the whole family and whether it’s doing one of the many tours or exploring this beautiful place by yourselves. All of these tours and activities are ideal for a family holiday whether its snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef together or spending some time having a massage without the children.

Snorkeling Tours

With the oldest living rainforest on one side it almost seems too good to be true that the Great Barrier Reef happens to be on the other, we are quite spoilt here. Nothing is more exciting for kids and adults than having a day out on the reef swimming after turtles and trying to track down Nemo.

In Cape Tribulation we are fortunate enough to have two first class operators Sailaway and Ocean Safari. Both offer an experience which is out of this world.

Sailaway offers a full day snorkeling tour on a luxury sailing catamaran. Departing daily at 9:00 am and coming back at 4:00 pm with inclusive lunch and snacks all throughout the day all you have to do is get up and go. You will also have a marine biologist on board for any questions you may have.

Ocean Safari is a half day snorkeling tour and they don’t mess around. With a top of the range speed boat you will be on the reef in 30 minutes! Not wasting any time this tour focuses on giving you as much time as possible in the water allowing you to make the most of your day out.

Guided Tours

Although it doesn’t take much to understand why this is such a special part of the world it does help to have a local guide brake it all down for you and there are plenty of them here.

Night Walks are the best way to see all the rare and wonderful wildlife that call Cape Tribulation home. When the sun goes down the animals come out to play and with an expert guide you will not miss a thing! As well as learning about all the amazing plants and fauna you will get to see animals like tree kangaroos (yes they exist), boyds forest dragons, possums and of course all of the snakes and spiders. A must do.

Free Ride is a new tour but we wish it had been around longer. Offering you the latest electric bike technology to see the oldest rainforest around. These bikes make cruising through the beautiful tracks that much easier with an electric motor to give you a boost. You will be joined by a local guide taking you through one of the more beautiful parts of the Daintree explaining it all for you and even giving you chance to swim in a beautiful freshwater swimming hole.

Horse Rides

Spending the day riding horses through Cape Tribulation with the family is a dream come true. Not only do the tracks take you through the rainforest but also along the beach giving you the best of both worlds. Perfect for anyone whether you haven’t been on a horse before or if you have won the Melbourne cup they will take care of you even showing you some of the bush tucker along the way.

Jungle Surfing

Looking up at the trees is one thing but looking down from them is a whole different story. Nothing is more satisfying than watching your kids use the human hamster wheel to hoist you up into the trees. With seven different viewing platforms and a Eco talk at each one it makes zip lining in the Daintree Rainforest that bit more special. Perfect for the whole family as they take anyone aged from 3 years old to 103.

Free Activities

Cap Tribulation & Daintree Rainforest
Cape Tribulation Beach

They say the best things in life are free and in Cape Tribulation this have never been more true. There is so much to do so you really need a good few days to experience it all.

For example there are many self guided board walks which take you around the different parts of the rainforest showing you how diverse it is. The walks range from 30 minutes to 2 hours so its entirely up to you which one suits you best. See the best walks here.

Here at the Beach House we also have a wide array or free toys and games. Whether playing some sport games on the beach with our volleyball net or opting for some of the board games we have at the restaurant all you have to do is ask and we will take care of the rest.

We also offer a free guided beach walk which takes you out of our resort right on to Cape Tribulation beach a perfect way to understand more about you surroundings in a fun relaxed environment. This is a big hit with both parents and kids.

The daily beach fire is definitely a highlight for families as everyone appreciates relaxing by a fire after a day out. While the kids are roasting marshmallows and making friends the parents get a chance to catch up with other families and even share a couple glasses of wine. What more could you want?

Cape Tribulation also has many fresh water swimming holes which are a delight to cool off in on a hot day. With two easily accessible swimming holes -Masons and Emmagen Creek there is no reason why you shouldn’t stop off at both. Also a good idea to bring a picnic along to relax by the waters edge while having some lunch.

So when you are next going on a family holiday make it the holiday you never forget not the time you spent planning it.
