The World Heritage Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world, stretching over 2,000km from the northern tip of the continental shelf near Papua New Guinea, all the way south to Bundaberg, Queensland Australia. It consists of 3000 coral reefs, a mix of 900 continental and coral cay islands and about 150 inshore mangrove islands.
The total land mass of the Great Barrier Reef is equivalent to nearly five Japans, it is bigger than the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Holland combined, and is half the size of Texas – no wonder you can see it from the moon!!
