Cape Trib Beach House is a 2.5 hour drive from Cairns and a 5 minute drive from the centre of Cape Tribulation township.
In 2015 the State Government named the stretch of scenic road between Cairns and Cape Tribulation the Great Barrier Reef Drive. The route stretches 140km along Captain Cook Highway and Cape Tribulation Road into the depths of the ancient Daintree Rainforest.
The journey begins from Cairns and will lead you over the Barron River and through the northern beaches of Palm Cove, Trinity Beach and Ellis Beach. The route then prevails alongside the beautiful Coral Sea and many unspoilt beaches before arriving in Port Douglas – a great place to stop for the night or enjoy a beach swim or delicious lunch.
Heading north you will arrive at the historic Mossman Gorge where we suggest stopping to learn a little about the original occupants of the land – the Kuku Yalanji people. Here you will find towering granite boulders and fresh natural swimming holes ideal for a dip. In the town of Mossman itself you will find quaint cafes and indigenous art galleries.
Continuing north through the sugar cane fields you will really begin to feel that you are in ‘the middle of nowhere.’ The Great Barrier Reef drive will lead to the humble Daintree Village. This is where the venture into the world’s oldest rainforest really begins. The only way to access Cape Tribulation is by the Daintree River Ferry (make sure you look out for Crocodiles). As you arrive on the other side prepare to be mind blown by the winding roads that lead you deep into the ancient Daintree Rainforest.
As you venture towards the township of Cow Bay and Cape Tribulation, you will be rewarded with bucket list views of the region from Rex Lookout. The road is fully sealed all the way to The Beach House – a 4WD vehicle is NOT required. As your Internet signal begins to trickle out, your coastal drive will come to an end in the township of Cape Tribulation. Welcome to paradise!
