We often stay here at the Cape Tribulation Beach House to relax. There is a certain feel here, where you can become completely disconnected from the outside world. However, there is also an abundant amount of things to do here that you could probably not find in many other places. With a perfect balance of rainforest, untouched beaches and native wildlife, Cape Tribulation is the ideal place, not only to unwind but also a place to explore and really get your hands and feet dirty.
Therefore, before we begin we should start with things to do here that will not cost you anything but your time. It is often said that the best things in life are free and at the Cape Tribulation Beach House we really try and give as many options as possible. However, be advised that in order to see and do everything here you need to spend at least 2 nights at Cape Tribulation. The place is too big, with so many things to do that in our view one night is just not enough. To help you get started, we have put together a list of things to do in Cape Tribulation – check it out and enjoy!
ATTENTION BACKPACKERS! We’ve also created a guide just for you: Backpackers Guide to the Daintree Rainforest & Cape Tribulation
1. Cape Tribulation Lookout
The first thing we recommend is to visit the Cape Tribulation look out, it is located on Cape Tribulation Beach, which the resort sits right next to. It takes around 45 minutes to walk there and it is a fantastic opportunity to see the beach and the rainforest. A simple walk, but one that is a favourite among our guests.
For those with a little bit more energy you can also try the walk to Mt Sorrow – you must allow around 6 hours for the return trip. Mt Sorrow is the tallest peak in Cape Tribulation and the view from the peak is in a word – breathtaking.
2. Go for a Swim
For swimming there are a lot of options, there is our pool, and a couple of swimming holes in the Daintree which our staff and tour guides can inform you of. You just need to be extra careful and cautious of rock reefs, manta rays and crocodiles on our beach! However, there is also an abundance of other things to do in Cape Tribulation that you won’t normally find in other places. Click here for the best Swimming Spots.
3. Stay In
The Cape Tribulation Beach House has a book exchange, television at the Bistro where you can watch a movie as well as internet connection in the Bistro at a cost. So you do not always need to be immersed in the rainforest, you can always have some connection time. Especially when you are here for more than a couple of days.
4. Massage on The Beach
Enjoy a relaxing massage on the beach at Cape Tribulation Beach House, this is the only resort in Cape Tribulation that offers this service. This is just another thing you can tick off your bucket list. A massage on the beach by a professional therapist who knows her stuff.
5. Go for a Walk
Now this is not the complete list of things to do – I mean you can go exploring on the board walk down the next beach south, go through the countless walks through the rainforest and even grab your torch and go searching for sand crabs on the beach. However, the point is that there is just so much to see and explore. While exploring your home base at the Cape Tribulation Beach House can give you those creature comforts to help you prepare for the next trek. Check out the best hikes in the Daintree.
6. Cape Tribulation Tours
Although a favourite activity is just to sit on the beach and read a book. Cape Tribulation also has plenty of tours and tour operators – most of which are just excellent and all pretty good value for money. We have a snorkelling tour that leaves for Mackay reef. It is an excellent way to see an area of the Great Barrier Reef that is completely unspoiled, it only takes a 25 minute boat ride to the reef, unlike others where it can take hours to get to a decent reef. Another way to see our sea animals is to book a Paddletrek kayak tour. This is a great way to see Cape Tribulation and the surrounding area. There are also guided tours that depart the Cape Tribulation Beach House twice a day.
7. Jungle Surfing
Jungle Surfing takes you into the beating heart of the Daintree Rainforest on a guided tour through six tree platforms, seven ziplines and the world’s first Human Hamster Wheel cable lift.
The platforms range from 5 to 19.5 metres above the ground and each one reveals a different level of the rainforest ecosystem with unique and spectacular views into the rainforest canopy, over the treetops, down to a bubbling creeks and out to the Great Barrier Reef.
The two-hour Jungle Surfing tours runs in all weathers with at least one hour up in the rainforest canopy. The tours suit all ages from three to 103 and is a “must do” experiences for anyone visiting Queensland, Australia.
Jungle Surfing tours depart up to twelve times a day from Cape Tribulation and can be booked through our recepetion with transfers from Cape Tribulation Beach House.
8. Fruit Tasting Tour
Just a short drive from our resort you can experience a tour around the world of tropical and exotic fruits that will treat you to a taste sensation that is both mouth-watering and healthy. From the delectable chocolate pudding fruit, to the creamy mamey sapote, to the ever-popular breadfruit chips, you’ll enjoy a platter of exotic fruit like you’ve never seen before.
This is just a small summary of the amazing things you do at Cape Tribulation, there are just so many activities and tours that you will be hard pressed to not be amazed at the world where live. Acres of grounds teeming with rainforest wildlife and miles of deserted beach mean you can do as much or as little as you like on your special Cape Tribulation Beach House getaway.
